What is a Showcase Hospital?
Seven trusts from around the UK have been recruited to act as showcase hospitals.
The trusts will focus on the in-use value of HCAI technologies, initially evaluating products with a Rapid Review Panel Rating 1. Working with the National Technology Hub, they will develop technical and economic business cases for each of the technologies.
The hospitals will gain invaluable knowledge about the practical aspects of using the products in real situations. They will be able to share with you their experiences, ranging from training needs and getting the products adopted, through to patient experiences.
By visiting one of the showcase hospitals, you will be able to see the technologies being used in live situations and have the chance to discuss any issues with your peers.
Which Products are Being Showcased?
Initially those products that have received a Rapid Review Panel 1 rating will be placed in the hospitals.
Once the first phase of technologies has been embedded, RRP 2 and 3 rated products will be tested in the showcase sites. We may also add some new technologies that just seem to make good common sense!
From June 2008, for around 6 months, you can expect to see some or all of the following in the showcase hospitals:
BIOQUELL's hydrogen peroxide vapour (HPV) technology offers a rapid, residue free bio-decontamination for rooms, wards and enclosures with proven efficacy against a wide range of organisms including, MRSA, C.Difficile, and many others. Rapid cycle times ensure minimal down time with a side room decontaminated in <2 hours, whilst entire wards can be bio-decontaminated in <12 hours.
Two modes of operation are available, the HPV generator available for purchase in order to decontaminate side rooms and bays, and the Room Bio-Decontamination Service, RBDS, offering a response to outbreak situations for larger areas (wards, theatres etc), along with the preventative 'implant' model that operates a 'search and destroy' policy of HCAIs within the hospital.
